What on earth are you here for? and What will you do with your one life to live?

I have always been a sucker for studying the lives of ‘real’ people.  I would rather learn about the real lives of others than to sit with a good fiction book anyday.  To see what inspires others,  and how they live and love always catches my attention.  With this in mind, I will tell you that I have absolutely fallen in love with a blog I recently stumbled upon.  The author’s knack for wording, humor, insights, and outlook on life truly intrigue me, not to mention the author’s family as seen through the blog photos is most intriguing as well.  Being a self-professed professional amateur photographer, the author’s photos speak volumes.   I am drawn to it.  I eagerly await each new blog post as if it were my next meal, secretly wishing for a camera just as the one the author uses so I myself can become a self-professed professional amateur photographer!; and secretly wishing for the author’s gift of wording that cleverly falls on each page.  I am a subscriber of this blog….a follower….somewhat a stalker, so to speak.  🙂

Having said that, I read one of the author’s most recent updates and was truly enthralled.  The blog began in the usual format with the author sharing her life through her photos accompanied by her thoughts, which were very well versed.  Then, almost out of nowhere, she began talking about faith …. and church …. and God.  I was hanging on every word as if these would be the last I would ever read.  I was excited…excited that she was going to voice her thoughts on her faith.  In the few months I have been following her, she had never voiced anything about faith or God or church or even religion in general; so I was anxious to see what makes up this person that has so captured my attention.

She shared that she’s been in many churches, heard many beliefs, had many questions, and for all the times she has tried to figure it out, it all boils down to this:  we are all different and have different beliefs; what is important is that we try to find the precious moments in life and drink it all in and to be grateful for all of it….and to do something with this one life we’ve been given.  It is all of this that makes her feel closer to God.  The more she experiences priceless moments with her family….the more she recognizes the beauty of God’s creation around her…the more she feels like she knows God.

Well, I happen to agree with her.  I agree that watching a sunrise early in the morning can take your breath away….

Riding on top of 60+ feet of water in a boat can leave you amazed  — and even moreso in an intertube, especially when you are watching a barge go by!

Watching the birds of the air and how they float on air so amazingly with grace and ease …

It’s watching my tiny hummingbirds that I love so much gulp down the sugar water in my back yard.

It’s watching the water stretch out for what seems like days and staring in amazement at it’s ability to stop at the shoreline.

It’s the sound of Todd’s voice when I’m not expecting him to be there and feeling my heart skip a beat…..still, after all these years.  It’s my boys having such a laughing fit that they can’t catch their breath no matter how hard they try….and then turn red as they feel like their heart is about to pop out of their chest.
It’s the sound of a summer storm stirring as water droplets start bouncing off the patio leaving behind prints in the dust until it’s steady stream rinses the prints away.  It’s the rain droplets fading into the sparkle of  the sunshine as the slow steady stream calls out in a peaceful calming pattern.
Sunshine in the rain.
And having your breath taken away at the glimpse of a rainbow at the end of the summer storm.
Yes. All of these things make me feel extremely close to God.

But …it’s not only that.  It’s so much more.–

“By the word of the Lord the heavens were made. And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth. He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap. He lays up the deep in storehouses. Let all the earth fear the Lord; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.” ~Psalm 33:6-9

It’s a relationship with Him -and being in absolute awe OF THE CREATOR HIMSELF moreso than being in awe of His creation.  It is to know that you are ‘not’ but that you know the great ‘I AM.’  The ONE and ONLY constant in our life.  All of these things that we admire in amazement……butterflies, volcanoes, the ocean, a sunset, the miracle of motherhood, babies, storms, PEOPLE…..yes, friends and family….they all will prove to disappoint at some time or another in our life.  The joy we get from these things cannot stand alone in that task without failing.  But….the ‘I AM’….the One who was, who is, and always will be, is the ONLY ONE who can bring us total fulfillment…anywhere….anytime….no matter the circumstance or situation.  He is the One who never changes.  He is that constant that we so desire, if we would just recognize Him as being such.

Jesus said “I am the way, the truth, and the life…”
In Matthew 10:38-39 He says “And he who does not take up His cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.  He who finds his life will lose it and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.”

So what on earth are we here for?  What will you do with your one life to live?  We are called to do exactly what Jesus was called to do:  give ourselves up for the greater glory.  Die to self.  He must become greater, and I must become less.

“The skies declare the I AM is huge; but Calvary affirms that I AM has the best interest of every ‘i am not’ in mind at all times.  Our God is in the heavens and the whole world is under His command, but now because of Christ we can personally know how much He loves us and believe that He is using everthing that comes our way for His glory and for our ultimate good.” ~ Louie Giglio

So once again, yes….these priceless moments in my life paired with the beauty of God’s creation do make me feel closer to God and make me feel like I know Him more.  But how futile all of it would be without knowing HIM who created it all.

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” ~John 3:16
